Directions

Getting here

Butterfly World, Tradewinds Park (south side of Sample Road), 3600 W. Sample Road, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073 — about 10 miles north of Fort Lauderdale.

  • From I-95 (Exit 39): head west on Sample Road about 3 miles. Turn left into Tradewinds Park and follow the park road 1/3 mile to the entrance.
  • From the Florida Turnpike (SR 91, Exit 69): turn left onto Sample Road and stay in the left lane. Tradewinds Park is about ¼ mile ahead; turn left and follow the park road 1/3 mile.
  • From the Sawgrass Expressway (SR 869, Exit 19): take Lyons Road south about 2 miles to Sample Road, turn left, stay in the right lane and turn right into Tradewinds Park.
GPS warning. Some GPS devices — Apple Maps in particular — send drivers to other parts of Tradewinds Park. Enter the park on the south side of Sample Road. If you see horses, you’re on the opposite side: turn around, go back to the traffic light at Sample Road and go straight ahead; you’ll see signs for Butterfly World. Google Maps works correctly. Weather

Read the sky

The park is mostly outdoors. Hours can change without notice because of the weather. Butterfly World watches the forecast but doesn’t close on predictions alone. In extended bad weather a rain check may be issued at its discretion.

Coconut Creek forecast

  • Sunny and warm (above 60°F): the best days for butterfly activity — butterflies are heat-loving, cold-blooded animals.
  • Normal wind: activity is normal; butterflies and birds fly.
  • Light drizzle or cloud: most larger butterflies still fly, smaller ones may rest. Low chance of early closure.
  • Cold (below 60°F): most butterflies won’t fly — a great day for photos of perching butterflies. Birds are very active.
  • Heavy rain or thunderstorms: with lightning the butterfly aviaries close temporarily. High chance of early closure, especially in the afternoon.

Weather can vary street to street in Florida. If in doubt about hours or butterfly activity, call 954-977-4434 during business hours.
